The following FAQs pertain to a PRIVATE CHEF
Q: What is the difference between a PRIVATE CHEF and a PERSONAL CHEF?
A PRIVATE CHEF is employed or contracted by one individual or family; they can be contracted as a small-business or kept on staff as a paid employee. Some private chefs may be required to stay "on site" (living in the client's house or on their property in adjacent housing) while others are able to go home each evening. They prepare meals one or more times every day (with occasional days off). Private chefs work very closely with their client to determine daily, weekly and/or special events menus; taking in to account the client's dietary requirements, preferences, and health concerns. They may also be asked to supervise additional household staff or oversee special events. Their duties, scope of responsibility, and payment arrangements should be clearly delineated and specified in an employment contract.
A PERSONAL CHEF serves several clients -- usually one client per day and at their own discretion for number of clients and frequency of service
dates. They are not official employees of their clients -- they are usually classified as small business owners. Personal chefs work closely with their
clients to develop multiple meal and menu plans that are custom designed for each clients' needs and requests. These meals are prepared in the clients' homes then immediately packaged and stored so their clients may enjoy them at their leisure. Depending on the arrangement, personal chefs may also prepare meals on a daily basis.
Q. Are you accepting new clients right now?
Yes. You can contact me via email or through the web request located on the contact page.
Q. What
services do you provide as a private chef?
I would be responsible for all things related to food preparation and meal service, including safe food handling and management practices, kitchen cleanliness, and grocery shopping. A detailed list of services can be found on the PRIVATE CHEF services page. Each client will likely have different needs and expectations from their private chef so the exact details pertaining to the services I would be expected to provide would be clearly explained in our employment contract. Typically, private chefs are not responsible for housecleaning, childcare, personal valet, and/or general house management..

Q. When is payment due?
Payment terms are outlined in an employment contract between me and my client and will cover details such as payment frequency, payment dates, medical/dental/vision benefits, etc. If the prospective client wants me to prepare an introductory meal before establishing our working relationship, the client would need to pay my hourly rate and cost of food at the complimentary consultation meeting.

Q. Can my children be in the kitchen with you?
There are inherent risks and dangers being in a kitchen. For that reason, I prefer that your children not "hang out" in the kitchen during times when I'm preparing meals. However, we can arrange fun and informative "cooking classes" that your children can participate in.
